Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update Part 1 June 2021

The long-awaited Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update is finally here! Read on to learn about the exciting features they have in store for you!

Which versions of Minecraft is this update available for?

This update comes in three parts. As of June 10 2021, only the first part of the update is available. This update is targeted for Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Java Edition. Unfortunately, this update is not available for Minecraft: Education Edition. The update is available on Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOs, and Windows for the Bedrock Edition and for Java Edition, it can be played on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

So can you show me some examples of what the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update does?

The update has been split into three parts. This first part introduces new mobs (non player characters) into the game as well as new exciting blocks and items to build and use. The update also changes the textures of all the underground ores. The second and third parts of the update also include a new biome (type of terrain) deep underground which is sure to be reckoned with along with new exciting cave, mountain, and cliff generation.

What are the new mobs introduced in the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update?

The glow squid is the first of many mobs introduced in the update and are like regular squids in minecraft except for their neon greenish-blue glow and their drops being a glow ink sac. It is a passive mob and won’t attack other players. However, when attacked such mobs will squirt out some glow ink.

Along with this mob there is also a goat that under certain conditions will charge with it’s horns at you. These horns can be used to craft items. Goats will spawn naturally in an extreme hill biome.

Another mob introduced is the Axolotl. Axolotls are decorative mobs which will drop nothing when killed. They can come in many different colors including a rare blue color and a common pink color.

The warden is a mob that will come in later parts of the update because it is featured in the new (unreleased) biomes. It is blind and solely relies on sound to detect a player. Don’t let this get your guard down - the warden is a formidable opponent!

What are the new blocks and items introduced in the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update?

An exciting new item introduced in the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update is the spyglass. This allows the player to zoom into anything they can already see (if you can not see far enough, the spyglass will not help you see farther).

Another item is powdered snow which can be used to break a fatal fall while sustaining no damage at all.

Yet another block is the Deepslate version of many ores and blocks (basically a different textured version of the block). There is also a new ore: Copper Ore. This can be used to wax certain objects and build items such as the spyglass. Usually, when you mine ores in Minecraft you get either the actual ore or the actual material. Now, when you mine ores you get an item looking like a blob which is labeled raw iron for example.

Finally, there is also a new block called amethyst. It can come in the form of a shard or block and is also needed to make a spyglass. Amethyst is found in caves underground.

Stalagmites and Stalactites also exist. Stalactites can fall on you and these items can deal serious damage. There are many more blocks that can easily be discovered by exploring Minecraft!

What are the new environment features in the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update?

There are new types of blocks that intersect with caves underground as well as a new biome with the caves housing the warden. The cave generation has been updated and allows better caves to be generated around and in the sea. The mountain/cliff generation has also been altered.

Will this update affect any of my already existing Minecraft worlds?

No, it will not affect any already existing minecraft worlds but the world will include all the new features even if it was created before the update.

How can I obtain the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update?

Most likely if you already have Minecraft and are on a version and device that is compatible with the update you can manually update Minecraft through the store or app where you obtained it from. There is a chance that your game has already been updated. If you wish to download Minecraft now, you should be able to download the app with the update. Keep in mind that this update works only on the Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Java Edition.
